Child Daycare Centers Confront Higher Energy And Food Costs
BERLIN, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 14: Children play at the Kleiner Fratz child daycare centre in Neukoelln on September 14, 2022 in Berlin, Germany. Child daycare centres across Germany are facing compounding problems, including rising costs for energy and food as well as a shortage of staff. At the Kleiner Fratz Neukoelln centre instalment payments for energy have gone up 50% and food prices 9%, yet the amount of money the centre receives from the city per child has gone unchanged. The centre has the capacity to take on another 30 children but cannot do so because it lacks the required extra four teachers. Germany is facing a possible energy crisis as well as an economic recession to consequences stemming from Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. (Footage by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)
