Getting started
Sign into your Getty Images account to access the AI Generator.
Navigate to the top right of the page to visit the AI Generator.
Begin by typing in the prompt box.
Track the generations used from your agreement.
Reminder: each generation produces 4 images
Building prompts
- Start by describing a scene: a noun + a verb + a location. Example: a cat walking down a street
- Build on the scene by including additional details. Example: a wide‑angle eye‑level view of a tabby cat walking towards the viewer along a city street
- Once satisfied with a generation result, consider swapping out words to create new concepts. Example: a close up of a tabby cat walking towards the camera along an empty city street
- Use the negative prompt field to outline what you don’t want to see in your scene.
- Positive and negative prompt fields are limited to 50 words in total.
- Synonyms can help if you feel stuck while refining and improving your generation.
- Place the most important subjects of your prompt near the beginning of the prompt. This will receive more importance and weight than the words at the end of the prompt.
- Need some inspiration to get started? Click the Prompt Builder icon, it will guide you through the process of writing a strong prompt.
Customizing your results
- Toggle between Photos and Illustrations to change your image style.
- Change the aspect ratio to receive results in a specific size. NOTE: Updating the aspect ratio means the backgrounds, models, and compositions of your next generated images will be altered.
- Quickly scale variations using our Color & Mood filters.
- Select “Variations” or “Generate more” to see variations on a specific image or a 4‑image set.
Remove or replace elements
- Use the refine tool to brush over any part of the image to easily replace or remove selected elements.
- Easily undo brush strokes you don’t like.
- Simplify the iterations of your images with a look back at your latest creations.
- Quickly access your version history for downloading or further modifications.
- See a before and after of your image refinement.
Extend your generated image
- Go beyond the original frame for added context or aspect ratio requirements.
- Automatically fill in new areas in context of the original image or based on a prompt.

Downloading your results
- Like what you see? Download the image. With your agreement, these downloads are licensed, come with legal protection, and don’t count against your generations.
- Download in Medium or Large—generation downloads look great at 4K resolution (Large).
- Want an authentic visual to match? Just click on a generated image and scroll down to find a selection of imagery from our creative library, found using a reverse image search.
