Footage shows Turkish experts clearing mines in Libya

TRIPOLI, LIBYA - JUNE 15: After the demining experts from the Turkish Armed Forces started clearing civilian areas in Libya, fresh footage showed the annihilating process. On Thursday (June 11), in line with a request by the government, Turkish Armed Forces recently began to clear mines planted by warlord Khalifa Haftar's militants prior to their withdrawal to ensure the safe return of residents to their homes. The footage recorded by Anadolu Agency's team displayed the experts' works. The footage shows the experts are seen removing mines and explosives and searching houses. The Libyan army has recently inflicted heavy blows on the renegade commander’s forces and liberated Tripoli and Tarhuna from his militants. The internationally recognized Libyan government has been under attack by Haftar's forces since April 2019, with more than 1,000 killed in the violence. The government launched Operation Peace Storm in March to counter attacks on the capital and recently regained strategic locations, including Al-Watiya airbase. Libya's government was founded in 2015 under an UN-led agreement, but efforts for a long-term political settlement failed due to the military offensive by Haftar’s forces.
