Will Future Megacities Be a Marvel or a Mess? Look at New Delhi

This is the governments flagship smart city project, a housing redevelopment colony in East Kidwai Nagar for civil servants. Type 7 for central secretariat employees is the high end with 5 bedrooms. 87 acre plot is divided in different types and is in different stages of completion while a few have been finished and handed over, some are getting finishing touches while others are still under construction. The main objective is to double the number of families previously living on the site, replacing decades old dilapidated bungalows with 14 story tower blocks. They boast of vertical garden, rain water harvesting, underground parking, sprinklers, parks and for type 7 even coloured fountains. The labourers live in shanties right outside the plot and largely migrant. Though the initial timeline for construction was Dec 2018 it is likely to go into the next year.
