Taronga Zoo's two Andean condors which have been at Taronga Zoo since 1936, have produced their first youngster.The little chick named Diablo weighed in at 216 grams when hatched on Sunday 16th September and was immediately placed in a humidicrib. Constant care by zoo staff pulled Diablo through the first few days of his young life and today he weighs 1450 grams and is thriving on his high protein meat-based diet.Taronga Zoo holds the only condors in Australia and it is hoped to pair this latest addition to the collection with the zoo's spare female condor.Mr. John De Jose, Curator of Birds at Taronga Zoo keeps a watchful eye over Diablo when he faced the camera's for the first time.
