President Buys First Savings Bond
President Roosevelt buys the first of the government's New Defense Savings Bonds from Treasury Secretary Morgenthau. Speaking from the White House, the President made what he called a "frank and clear appeal for financial support to pay for our arming and to pay for the American existence of later generations."
