HONG KONG, CHINA - 2023/07/17: People take subway at Yau Ma Tei station during the No.8 Warning signal. In the early hours of July 17th, as Typhoon Talim approaches Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Observatory issues the Typhoon No.8 Warning signal at 12:40 a.m. This signal prompts significant changes throughout the city, with most bus services coming to a halt and the stock market closing its doors in response to the imminent danger. However, amidst these precautionary measures, the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) continues to provide limited subway services, ensuring that residents and travelers have a means of transportation during this critical time. During the No.8 Warning signal, some locals and travelers venture out in Tsim Sha Tsui and Heng Fa Chuen, eager to witness the force of Typhoon Talim firsthand. As the typhoon gradually weakens, the Hong Kong Observatory replaces the Typhoon No.8 Warning signal with the No.3 signal at 4:20 p.m. (Photo by Michael Ho Wai Lee/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)
