New Abraham Lincoln Document Unveiled
WASHINGTON - JUNE 07: A newly discovered letter written by Abraham Lincoln is displayed at the National Archives June 7, 2007 in Washington, DC. Lincoln's message is to Major Gen. Henry Halleck dated July 7, 1863 written just after the battle of Gettysburg during the U.S. Civil War. The text of the message is: "Major Genl Halleck, We have certain information that Vicksburg surrendered to General Grant on the 4th of July. Now, if Gen. Meade can complete his work so gloriously prosecuted thus far, by the litteral (sic) or substantial destruction of Lee's army, the rebellion will be over. Yours truly, A. Lincoln" (Photo by Win McNamee/Getty Images)
