25 years of TotalEnergies oil refinery in Leuna

14 February 2022, Saxony-Anhalt, Leuna: Behind the small town of Spergau, a district of the city of Leuna in the Saalekreis region of Saxony-Anhalt, plants of TotalEnergies Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland GmbH can be seen. The refinery of the French mineral oil company went into operation 25 years ago after a three-year construction period as the most modern of its kind in Europe. Each year, the Total refinery processes around 12 million metric tons of crude oil, which is fed in mainly from Russia via the so-called Druzhba pipelines, into gasoline, diesel, heating oil, aviation fuel and methanol, among other products.
