4/7 PERU-BULL-CONDOR-FESTIVAL A condor drinks "chicha," a fermented drink made from corn, 28 July in Cotabambas as part of the ritual of the "Juego del Toro" festival. The condor represents the "Apus" or Incan mountain gods to the Inca decendents. Up to 15 days before the festival, a "commission" of residents capture a condor, sometimes climbing the Andes Mountains as high as 5,000 meters (16,500 feet) above sea level to get their prey. During the festival, in an act symbolizing the vindication of the indigenous culture over the Spanish conquest, the condor will be tied to the back of a bull, which represents the Spanish culture.
