Portrait of Johnny Cash
(Original Caption) An elegantly clad Johnny Cash portrays Cherokee Chief John Ross in National Education Television's presentation, The Trail of Tears. The drama, which premiers April 30, is a dramatization of the events which led to the Cherokee Nation's horror-filled journey from their homes to the Oklahoma Territory in 1838-39. In this scene "Ross" prepares for his departure to Washington in a futile effort to sway President Andrew Jackson (played by Jack Palance) from authorizing the Cherokee removal. The 90 minute NET production will begin at 8:30 p.m.
