Henry Ford In His First Car

American inventor and industrialist, Henry Ford (1863 - 1947) posing in the driving seat of his first car, the Quadricycle, New York City, 1910. Ford has brought the vehicle, built in 1896, to New York as evidence in his legal appeal against the Association of Licensed Automobile Manufacturers (ALAM). In 1909 the ALAM had won a case against Ford over the Selden patent, which required US motor manufacturers to pay a royalty on all cars built – something Ford refused to do. Ford won his appeal in 1911. The photograph has been painted with the Stars and Stripes and a patriotic message. (Photo by Spooner & Wells/Library Of Congress/Getty Images)
