PARIS, FRANCE: The Kelvin 40, a concept jet, 8 metres in length with an 8 metre wingspan, the unique work by Marc Newson, one of the world's most accomplished and infuential self-taught architect and designer, is exhibited 23 January 2004 at the "Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain" in Paris. Newson, born in 1963 in Sydney, graduated in 1984 from the Sydney college of Arts in jewellery and sculpture. In 1986 he was awarded a grant from the Australian crafts council. In 1991, Newson set up a studio in Paris and started to create lighting, furniture, glassware and household objects for Italian manufacturers. Newswon integrated all the technological, mechanical and computer-assisted processes of production into a vision of engineering which makes the Kelvin 40 a work of art.
