Two Civilians Two Rebels Killed In Kashmir Gun Battle

A Kashmiri woman and a young man were killed and several others wounded during anti-India protests and clashes as people marched to the gun battle site to save the rebels in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Saturday after government forces launched an operation against the rebels. A top rebel commander Bashir Ahmad, alias Bashir Lashkari, along with his aide Azad Malik of a pro Kashmiri rebel of Lashkar-e-Taiba (Army of the Righteous), was killed in a gun battle with Indian government forces today, sparking protests and shutdown in the region. Ahmad was on India's most-wanted list and had a one million rupee (about $15,500)-bounty on his head after being accused of killing six Indian police men in an ambush last month.
