CHILE-DINOSAUR-PALEONTOLOGY

TO GO WITH AFP STORY by Miguel Sanchez A scientist digs in a recently explored remote area in southern Chile rich with dinosaur fossils searching for clues of how South America was linked to Antarctica millions of years ago in Mount Guido, in the Chilean Patagonia, on February 24, 2016. For two weeks, a team of 20 scientists -- paleontologists, paleobotanists and geologists -- from Chile and Brazil hiked up the sharp, rocky heights of Mount Guido in Chile's sparsely populated Patagonia region searching for fossils of plants and creatures that lived there millions of years ago. The vast dinosaur graveyard, discovered in 2009 by engineers searching for oil, is located some 3,000 kilometres south of the capital Santiago in the Torres del Paine National Park, near the border with Argentina. "This was a very tough expedition," said Sergio Soto, a University of Chile paleontologist with the expedition, organized by the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH).
